Mrs. Leigh G Hinkel
Mrs. Hinkel began fencing in 2008 at the Kansas City Fencing Center in Overland Park, KS when she was 37 years old. After she had fenced for 6 years she became the Children’s Fencing Coach and served in this position for another 6 years before moving to East Tennessee.
Coach Leigh is a member of both the US Fencing Association and the US Fencing Coaches Association. She is also a rated Fencing Referee.
She, alongside her Coach and friend Kelly Williams, created and ran a course in Christ-like character, manners and fencing entitled Honor and Sword from 2010 – 2015. This class began as a coming of age course for teenagers and later was formed into a course for children as well.
Coach Leigh worked in the Kansas City Metro for many years as a preschool PE teacher with FitKids, as a PE Teacher for 6 – 17 year olds through Red Bridge Academy and as a Middle School PE Teacher and Elementary Spanish Teacher at Bethany Lutheran School.
Mrs. Hinkel obtained her A.A. in Exercise Science and Coaching from Kansas City KS Community College after completing both her B.S. in Bible/Missions and M.A. in New Testament at Johnson University in Knoxville TN. She has since also obtained her M.Div from Nations University and is presently working on her D.Min in Spiritual Formation through Liberty University.
Leigh was born and raised in Savannah, GA, and she, along with her husband Larry, lived in Johnson City, TN for several years before moving to Latin America to serve as missionaries. The Hinkels moved back to Johnson City in 2020 and are members of First Christian Church-JC.
